Spotify—-I’m in!

This application is really a game-changer; it refines what we mean by “music collection”. I’m impressed by its simple interface and depth of content.

Five bucks a month. Access to millions of songs. Do the math.

How Wayne Shorter ended up playing on Steely Dan's "Aja"

The guy who set it up was none other than jazz-promo-legend Dick LaPalm. We hear LaPalm’s side of the story here.

An answer to the NBA lockout—-The players start their own league

I’m a firm believer that the NBA needs to die. And I love to imagine what it would be like if the best basketball players in the world decided to completely by-pass the middleman (NBA) to start their own league. How could it be done? Here are some suggestions:
1. Eliminate travel and the expense of running large facilities by making it a TV-only league. Everybody lives in one place. (LA, perhaps)
2. Make a deal with a major cable network that’s not connected with the NBA. Build 4-8 basketball courts/TV studios and trick out the camera positions all over the place. Allow for a small audience in the studio and charge a premium.
3. No individual contracts. Revenues are shared, league-wide, with the largest share going to the team that wins the title, and down the line.
3. 32 teams - 10 players each. 32 General managers are selected by a vote of the players.
4. Once the GMs are selected, then there are two drafts. The first, for the head coach; the second, for the players.
5. The regular season - each team plays each other once. (A 31 game season). The final standings determine seedings for the playoffs—everyone’s in the tournament!
6. The playoffs - five rounds (Best of 11). A crappy team that’s swept in the 1st round only plays 6 games(minimum); a finals team that has had to play 11 games each series
plays 55 games (max).
7. Once the season’s over, they blow up all the teams and start with a brand new draft for the following year.

Now would this be “must-see-TV” or what?

So sorry to hear about Peter Falk’s passing. What comes to my mind immediately is his role in “Wings Of Desire” as an angel who incarnates in a body once again, and savors each moment of human life.
